The Arnold Sports Festival 16th March 2010
Well, the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival is now over and it was another good year. Dubbed “The Largest Multi-Sport Event in the Nation”, this year there were 700 booths displaying and selling sports equipment, clothing and nutritional supplements to the 170,000 attendees.
It did seem bigger than ever this year and the results of the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Show were more surprising than ever! The man who won bodybuilding’s biggest show – The Mr Olympia – in 2008 came 4th this year – needless to say, Dexter Jackson was very disappointed! Surprisingly, last year’s winner, Kai Greene came back and won it again. Second place man Phil Health was another shocker, coming in second, placing ahead of Branch Warren, who has regularly beaten Heath in recent shows. This trophy-swapping that has been occurring at the two big bodybuilding shows in the last few years has brought some excitement back to the sport and can only be good for bodybuilding.
There weren’t as many surprises in the Strongman Classic in which Derek Poundstone took the prize, although many of the top strongmen in the world didn’t attend.
As usual, the Saturday evening party was a late-night affair at which you could find virtually every “big player” in the bodybuilding and supplement industry – lots of fun had by all.
